Misty Smith
Executive Director
Misty Smith, LMSW, became the Executive Director after being with the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranch for almost 16 years. She has over 20 years of Social Work experience and almost 18 years of that has been spent working in foster care. She has held the roles ranging from Social Worker, Director and has also stood in the gaps of being a house parent, when needed.
Misty received a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Alabama and a Masters of Social Worker from the University of Texas A&M in 2008. After working with therapeutic foster children in Texas, she and her family moved back to Alabama, where she received her licensing and began working with the Department of Human Resources.
When the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches began the process of opening the Colbert County Girls Ranch location, Misty was brought on as the Social Worker and assisted in the licensing process of the Hall house and was able to work with the State Department to meet the requirements to begin taking girls into the home. She has since worked every day, with over 200 girls at the Colbert location, and continues to maintain contact with some of the first girls who were with her. in the beginning through today.
Misty is married to Brian and has two children, Brooklyn (26) and Cayden (19). She has a son-in-law, Dameon and one granddaughter, Nevaeh Willow (4). She enjoys spending her spare time with her family and friends and traveling when she is not just relaxing at home. Although she feels that her “family is also the staff and girls that live and work at the ranch. Holidays and vacations are spent together because that is what family is supposed to do! This is home to all of us. We are not just a group home as so many see in our name."
