Being a Houseparent

The Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches are seeking Christian couples to parent loving group homes for the children God has entrusted to us.

Our houseparents live year-round on the Ranch and fill in as parents for the children in their care. Each of our houseparents must be committed to being a strong, positive parental role model in a professional family-style setting and be dedicated to creating a warm, loving, Christian home environment for these children. Throughout the course of daily care, they also teach social skills, practical skills, and independent living skills to the youth in their houses.

Each house can hold up to ten children ages 6 to 18. These youth typically come from underprivileged backgrounds or foster care and have experienced trauma or have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. They are in simply in need of loving care, safety, guidance, and understanding to help them heal and discover purpose for the future.

The Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches will provide full training and support, so no prior experience is necessary. Our houseparents have come from all backgrounds and seasons of life: teachers, youth pastors, couples considering fostering or adoption, young couples just starting out, retirees, and others who wanted their next chapter to make a difference in the lives of others. Although we generally hire married couples, we encourage any interested applicants to apply!

Houseparents must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and a strong desire to help boys and girls find hope and better futures. Applicants will undergo an extensive background screening process including drug testing and fingerprinting to meet DHR licensing standards.

Our generous benefits package includes Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance, separate dental and vision policies, 401K, vacation, and sick leave, PLUS housing and living expenses while on duty.

"I was a house mom at Hall house for 3 years before getting married and returning as a relief houseparent. I'm so thankful for the Ranch because it's FAMILY. From the first day, I felt instantly connected, and I knew this place would forever hold a place in my heart. I tell every girl that comes into our care that we are family now and always will be." - A.

"God put me at the ranch, and I knew it was exactly where he wanted me to be. I received a new purpose, a new family, and wonderful Christian coworkers to serve alongside. At the Ranch, I am able to heal right along these precious children. I wake up every morning with a smmile on my face knowing that it's not about me, it's about doing God's work." - P.
